Here is a variant rule for playing "Take That Toy!" with 2 players.

  • OVERVIEW
Two cats are collecting toys when a stray cat comes along.
The stray cat interferes with their toy collection on a whim.
Can you collect as many toys as possible while avoiding the interference of the stray cats?

  • PREPARATION
    1) Shuffle the toy cards and deal 10 cards to each players.

    2) Deal out 10 cards for "Stray Cats" separately from the players. These cards are dealt face down as a deck for "Stray Cats".

    3) Open one card from the remaining cards and place it in an easy-to-see location for the player to see. The color of the opened card becomes the trump suit. The remaining cards are not used, so they are put aside.

    4) Open 3 cards from the "Stray Cats" deck and place them in a row next to each other. This become as the "Stray Cats Timeline".
  • STRAY CATS' TIMELINE
The Stray Cats Timeline indicates the order in which the Stray Cat plays cards. The Stray Cats always play cards in order, starting with the card on the leftmost side.
Cards in the timeline are always replenished to three until the deck runs out.
Each player can see two cards ahead of the other that will be played by the "Stray Cat", so the players always know the type of cards that will be played.
Keep track of this information to keep the card types in order.
  • How to play the game
The first turn is the turn of the first player, starting with "Stray Cat" and proceeding clockwise. The player who has the most tricks continues to take turns.

After confirming the card of "Stray Cat", players proceed with May-follow trick-taking as in the normal rules.

◆ If the player took the trick
The player takes the "stray cat" played card together and arranges them by type in front of him or her.

As in the normal rule, when there are four or more cards of the same color, they will be bursted.
Shuffle the burst cards, and give one card to the opponent's hand, and the other into the bottom of the "stray cat" deck.
If there are no cards in the "Stray Cat" deck, the card is considered to have been opened from the deck and is placed face down.

The player who has all the 5 colors  wins the game.

◆ If the "Stray Cat" plays a trick
The "Stray Cat" does not collect toy cards in front of him. like other players do.
He collects all the cards played and discards them. On his next turn, the "Stray Cat" plays the first card.

Before taking a new turn, the player moves the cards in the "Stray Cat's Timeline" to the left, opens one card from the "Stray Cat's" deck, and places it on the rightmost card of the Timeline.

  • Winning the game
As in the normal rules, the player who collects more types of toy cards wins the game.
If the players have the same number of cards, the number of cards collected is used to determine the winner.

  • TIPS
Since you can see the cards in the "Stray Cat's timeline", you need to think a little further ahead.
"Stray Cat" does not collect toys, so all tricks taken by "Stray Cat" will be discarded and will not be returned to the player's hand.
Therefore, when a "Stray Cat" is about to play a trick, it is a good strategy to play a color that the opponent wants to collect and ask the "Stray Cat" to play a trick.
On the other hand, since you know what color the "Stray Cat" will play, you may push the same color to your opponent for a burst of tricks.
